Mainly used to turn off non-essential loads while Eskom is loadshedding, optimizing your battery usage.

The din rail mountable relay is connected to Eskom, the Sonoff Mini R2 is connected to your inverter. The state of the mini (on/off) is controlled by the relay being turned on when Eskom is available and off when load shedding is taking place, in turn the relay will turn the Sonoff Mini on or off. The mini’s state is then used in automated scenes in the eWelink app to automatically turn off non-essential devices connected to your inverter system via other sonoff smart switches, like the geyser, pool pump, stoves, tumble dryers, kettles etc. Then automatically turned back on when Eskom power is restored.

App notifications can be enabled to notify you when Eskom is loadshedding and when power is restored.

Optimization can further be fine-tuned and customised to your needs and requirements by linking the device in Home Assistant, setting up automations to turn devices on and off based on your battery percentage or inverter load, or even linking devices to load shedding schedules to turn your geyser on 30mins before loadshedding starts. Note: 2.4ghz wifi internet connection is required, installation by a qualified electrician.

Example of use:

Install a Sonoff Pow Elite switch behind the washing machine and dishwasher, set a scene to automatically turn off power to these appliances when loadshedding starts, and to turn on when power is restored.
Install a Sonoff RGB Smart globe or Sonoff Smart Led Strip, set the scene to turn on the globe and change the color to red when loadshedding and green when loadshedding is over.
Install a smart geyser or smart pool timer to disable the schedules during loadshedding.
